There are more than twenty families of thermoplastic materials than can be transformed through the injection moulding process. These include basic polymers (or standard polymers), technopolymers, high performance polymers (or superpolymers) and elastomers. It is possible to further combine the basic properties of these thermoplastics thanks to the addition of additives, fillers and reinforcements, in order to be able to meet processing requirements and the application characteristics of the final product.
The materials are selected according to the final applications of the product. Depending on whether the final product has an aesthetic and/or structural function, whether it must be electrically or thermally insulating or conductive, wear-resistant, antistatic, shockproof, lubricated, colorable, shielding, wheter it requires particular mechanical or structural characteristics, it is necessary to identify the most suitable polymer.
